Being Aware
Living an aware life is so wonderful! I stopped at Wal-Mart on the way home last night to pick up a few odd items, one of which I was having a hard time finding (which means, it wasn’t where I thought it should be in the store). As I was walking across the Super Sized Wal-mart to the other side to find this item I needed ,ahead of me to my right, parked in the aisle was a shopping cart with a little 3-4 year old girl sitting in the seat of the shopping cart. As I made contact with this little angel, her eyes lit up and she smiled the biggest smile. She smiled as though she knew me, as though she recognized me as someone in her life. As I approached where she sat, her eyes and smile got bigger and bigger as I smiled back at her. When I got within a few feet of her card she extended her right hand out towards me as if she wanted a handshake. I slowed down enough to shake her hand and say hi and kept going on my way.
I thought to myself as I continued on my way, I am so glad that I was being aware and living in the present, for I could have just as easily been caught up in what I was searching for, caught in frustration that the item was not where I thought it should be, etc. Because I was aware, I was able to share a wonderful moment with this wonderful being whom radiated such a powerful energy. We shared a moment of pure energy exchange which enhanced both of our life’s and the life’s of everyone else we came into contact with!
As you go about your weekend, your chores, running your errands, visiting with friends and family, remember to be aware, remember to be aware and stay in the present, for it is then that you will realize and see all of the beauty of this universe!

What a delightful little story Mark! Funny how a moment like that can really touch us and bring us so much joy isn’t it?!! Thanks for sharing this moment with us!
Desiree,
Glad you enjoyed the story. It was a joyful moment. Thank Grace for reminding me to open up a little more.
You should see my face! I have a wide open grin spreading from one side of my face to the other – from almost the first sentence – and it hasn’t left yet.
Why am I smiling? Well, for one, now I know you shop at WalMart like the rest of us heathens! (lol…just kidding…) ((( tobeme ))) THANK YOU
Two – I was THERE. Well, I mean, figuratively, of course. But I was there as an observer to your wonderful encounter AND I was reliving a number of these encounters that I’ve had myself. For awhile there I thought I had an angel sitting on the top of my head that only little children and animals could see! I remember this one little girl, sitting in her booster seat at the table with her folks. She kept whipping her head around to look at me and reach out (she had her back to me, at the end of the table)….even after I tried to ‘ignore’ her so her parents could get on with their meal. And when her dad picked her up to leave, she struggled around in his arms until she could look over his shoulder and wave goodbye.
Have A FANTASTIC weekend!
Wonderful – - – thank you for sharing this. Awareness and mindfulness really are the cornerstones of a balanced and healthy life.
gassho,
Gregor
Grace,
See the impact you have! You were in my thoughts as I thought about this last night and as I wrote this, this morning. You have inspired me.
Glad you are smiling! I know the feeling, children and animals, they are pure and can feel the vibrations of our energy. Thanks for adding your own story!
Gregor,
Thanks for stopping by and for your thoughts, have a great weekend!
During roll call in elementary school, I always answered, “Present,” instead of, “Here.” I always thought that word had more a spiritual meaning. When we are aware of such meaning, we feel like we are all connected.
During my evening walk yesterday, I walked toward a baby crying while being pushed in a stroller. As soon as I got into view, the baby made a point to say, “Hi,” in a cat-like voice. It was so sweet that in that moment we connected like you connected with your being.
Life is all about being present. Thank you for being present in the blogosphere Mark. It is much needed.
Alexys,
You were that aware in elementry school? Very cool.
Thanks for sharing your story. It is wonderful how we are all connected and when we are aware we can feel how we are connected.
Thanks for your thoughts, always appreciated.
Nice new format. It really works for your blog.
Ohhhhhhh, I agree with Gregor! I LOVE what you’ve done with the place, Mark!!
I feel so much better about things where I read or hear these stories and when I experience them myself.
I love this new look! It works great with your posts! I love it when people stop and enjoy the moment. My littlest says hi to everyone and it is so fun to see the smiles he gets in return!
Mark,
It’s been a while since I dropped in due to my busy-ness, so was surprised with the new layout, which I simply LOVE! It’s so attractive!
I have always tried to live in awareness, as I believe that you’re not living at all if you are always in a daze, not noticing all the lovely things that is surrounding us. Sometimes, of course, when we’re too busy with our daily life, we forget to stop and just look around us, appreciating the beauty in all the things around us. We have forgotten to appreciate mother nature. We have forgotten to appreciate the joy of just being alive!
Posts like yours are a good way to make us realize our lack of appreciation, and I hope you will continue to open our eyes.
Cheers!
so very true. just being present and aware has the ability to make every moment sacred.
i adore children. they are simply divine…
…and wow, i am gone for a day and an all new look???? looks good. have a wonderful weekend.
Wow Mark! I’ve not been here awhile! I love your new look! Again, Wow! Usually I read posts in my blog surfer and unless I comment, I’m not on the actual site. Goes to show you what you miss when you don’t go there.
I never fail to be amazed at the innocence of children and how they relate to the world. I’ll share with you that up until recently, I’ve been in the choir when at mass and usually, DH is holding our son far from where I am. Last Sunday, I was sitting with our son in the congregation because I had lost my voice and could not sing. There is a part of the mass when the priest says, “Let us offer each other a sign of that (Jesus’) peace,” and we turn to our neighbors and shake hands. My son promptly held out his hand and smiled his biggest smile to every one around him. Everyone around us, and two pews behind us, stretched over towards my baby and shook his hand. I was amazed and felt so blessed to have the opportunity to witness such an exchange.
Hi, Mark!
I understand where you’re coming from. It seems both my husband and myself share the same quality of being able to make babies smile and attracting dogs (the animal kind)! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard, “She/he never laughs at anyone she/he doesn’t know.” Of course, it could be the insane faces that I make. However, I believe that we genuinely love kids and animals, and they definitely sense it!
As I was planting this afternoon, I kept stopping to look at the different birds that would perch themselves on a nearby branch, on the fence, or on the electric wire. They would sing their beautiful songs, and I just had to stop to appreciate them. I knew I probably looked like a loon to my neighbors, but I didn’t care! It made my day that much more enjoyable.
What a beautiful surprise it was to click here today! I love your new look.
Hi Mark:
I love your new blog design! What a beautiful story and how sometimes we miss those moments by just focusing on ourselves. Have a beautiful day. Helen
A friend taught me the joy of communicating with children in this way many years ago – it has given me much joy over the years.
Love the new look
I think that child must have known you, or at least something about you. What a joy.
I haven’t visited since you changed the site. I like the colors!
Peace,
Brian
Woe. What a striking difference in wordpress themes. Think you’ll stick with it? Or are you just trying things out?
Change is good.
Chris
I like the new look of your website!
This was a fantastic story to share, Mark. It’s so beneficial to be more aware. This weekend we went camping and our site was right next to the boat dock. I “met” so many people who were loading their boats in the water and little children, too, all with their own little stories to share. It’s beautiful experiencing this, and I’m glad you did, too.
It is so true. The only way to realy “live” is to stay in the moment. It is not an easy to do especially with all the things we worry about on a dialy basis. Plus staying in the moment allows us to slow down a bit in this fast pace world.
I wonder sometimes, where are we rushing to, and why?
Grace and Gregor,
Thank-you both for your comments on the new look of the site. It was time for a change. Glad that you like it!
Knightofswords,
I think it is important to know that we all have these experiences. The sad part is that most of us don’t discuss them for fear of being labled as strange. We all have moments of unexplained connection with other beings.
Rjlight,
This is the beauty of untainted youth, they know how to spread their love and joy! No fear or how someone else might react. Thanks for sharing!
Faith,
Awareness is truly a beautiful state of being. Glad to hear that you activily try to stay in the present and in a state of awareness. It is key to fullfillment of our purpose.
Glad you enjoy the changes I have made to the site, thank-you! As always your thoughts are much appreciated.
Meredith,
You are right, every moment is sacred, the more we are present and aware, the more we understand that . Glad you like the new layout, thank-you.
Thanks for your thoughts!
Dragonmommie,
Great to hear from you, it has be a while, your wisdom has been missed. Thanks for sharing such a great story about your son, sounds like his spirit was in full bloom.
Funny, how lossing your voice afforded you the opportunity to recieve this lesson from your son. This is a further reminder that there are no accidents, you were exactly where you needed to be at that moment, and you were aware enough to acknowledge it. Thank-you so much for your thoughts!
Lisa,
I agree, children and animals do pick up our vibrations. They know, they are so open to their senses. They feel the kindness and love. You and your husband are truly blessed!
Your funny, I had a picture of “Sleeping Beauty” when you described the birds singing to you, ha! It is wonderful that you were able to appreciate their beautiful songs!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Bored in Vernal,
Nice that you were surprised! Glad you enjoy the new look!
Helen,
Thanks for stopping by! Glad you enjoy the new design. Have a day full of awareness and appreciation!
Nicola,
You had a wise and aware freind, this was a good lesson for you to learn. Thanks for sharing.
Brian (P.D.),
I agree, I believe the child picked up my vibrations. Glad you like the new layout and colors.
Sophia,
Thanks for the comments. Sounds like you had a fun weekend. Great that you were aware and enjoying all those around you. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Lucid,
You make a good point, where are we rushing to? Truth is if we are rushing to something, we are not in the present, we are on the chase, a chase which has no end. Thanks for your thoughts!
Children really do understand their spiritual being and their place int he universe.
A few weeks ago I asked my 5 year old what she you wanted most from the Universe.
“Kindness and love,” she said, without much thought. “That’s what I give to the Universe, so that’s what I expect back from it.”
She certainly knows what is important, this wonderful little girl of mine.

Renee,
Yes, children do understand. This is why we should all seek to childlike, for a child is so much more in touch with their self, their source.
Thank-you for sharing this special moment of such great wisdom! Your daughter is a wonderful soul.
